A WORD TO MY FELLOW GUIDE DOGS
ABOUT DARK GLASSES
You may, on occasion, be misidentified as a guide dog
in training. Do not be offended.
The problem lies not with you but with a segment of the
general public. Their image of a blind person who is in
need of a guide dog for assistance, or white traveling cane,
is based on the old stereotype blind person of the past.
That image mistakenly comes with a pair of dark glasses.
There may not be a physical need for your partner to wear
dark glasses.
Please do not attempt to wear dark glasses yourself. It
will only add to the public’s confusion.
